Early today three masked men in dark overcoats entered the McCulloch home six miles south of town. The family raised the alarm as dogs barked and a shot was fired. the robbers fled in a car, likely from Omaha, while wolf hunters observed a matching Chevrolet journeying away.
Last evening the Methodist church hosted Church Night sponsored by the ladies and society. A pleasant program featured Louise Rishel on piano, Don C York singing, and Mrs Jameson reading. Mrs E H Wescott spoke on World Peace and America's role amid global disarmament efforts. L S Devoe led games as guests enjoyed pie and coffee during the event.
The Plattsmouth Reserves lost 12 to 11 to Union High School on Union’s floor. Union led 5 to 1 at half, Plattsmouth’s small gym and arched shots hindered them. They plan to rest today then host Avoca on Friday at Plattsmouth court.
Miss Helen Warner entertained Wednesday at 6 o clock dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs L F Terryberry honoring Mrs William Wamboff of Emblem Wyoming. Guests enjoyed the pleasant occasion and the renewal of old times with Mrs Wamboff formerly Miss Anna Sievers of this city.
The 1933 auto license fee may drop to 5 or 3 dollars instead of 5. Legislature is expected to act soon and refunds may be issued to those who already paid the higher rate. County officials urge residents to wait until February 15 to see if the new law passes to avoid unnecessary refunds and clerical work.
The Majestic cafe building owned by William Barclay is undergoing a thorough overhaul. The upper floor is redecorated and in prime condition while the main floor restaurant receives a maple floor and rest of updates. Mr and Mrs Barclay will reside upstairs. E L McKissick, new sales manager of Iowa Nebraska Light Power Co, rents Vine Street residence and moves his family to the city.
County Judge A H Duxbury and clerk Warren Farmer attended a Lincoln meeting of the County Judges Association to discuss office affairs. While they were away Mrs Duxbury handled county business at the office.
John Richardson, a veteran Missouri river fisherman, reported a major loss of his fishing equipment last night. The suspects slipped away before the loss was found, and Sheriff Sylvester began an investigation immediately.
Avoca defeated Peru Bobkittens 47 to 6 in a high school gym curtain raiser. Four Stovall brothers Edward Wilbur Marvin and Charles scored a combined 35 points while Kalina Edwards and Jensen added field goals for Plattsmouth.
The Platter Bobkittens defeated Peru 24 to 9 as Rummel led the Platters in offense and floor work with Hirz, Rummel and Armstrong contributing key scores. Velvick led Peru with two field goals and two free throws, while Hirt and Rummel built the locals’ lead.
Deputy sheriff Jarvis Lancaster and his family plan to relocate to Patterson and Perching avenues in the Tuey property. They expect to move next Thursday if weather permits, and the community welcomes them as new residents.
The city schools report twenty nine students on the honor roll for the first semester. Seniors lead with fourteen names, followed by juniors seventeen, sophomores and freshmen listed with their classmates. Notable seniors include George Alam Greth Garnett Pauline Hoschar Alice Jeffries and Robert Wheeler.
The Friday convocation at the high school featured artists new to the platform with Supt. De Vo e and Mrs. Devoe performing solos and piano numbers. Anton Bajeck played xylophone while the basketball team celebrated four victories with a pep meeting led by Coach Robert.
Senator W. B. Banning of Union spent a few hours in the city meeting friends and discussing the state legislature. He leads on tax revision and economy measures and authored a sale tax bill aiming to ease real estate and personal property taxes. The bill mirrors Mississippi law and includes agricultural product exemptions.
Friends of Dr and Mrs Charles M Gradeville of Knoxville Iowa report their eldest son Charles Jr is in serious condition after a severe flu attack with complications. Specialists advise keeping him from school for possibly a year and under constant treatment while other family members recover from flu.
About 150 women of the Presbyterian church were guests of the men at a 6 30 banquet in the Fellowship room celebrating the church founding in Plattsmouth. Men prepared and served the meal, facing doubts but delivering a memorable event with music, readings, and a surprise serenade by Frank A. Cloidt.

Report from participants in a wolf hunting party south of the city states one hunter was wounded in the leg but not seriously. The injured man, a local resident, could not be identified by others at the scene.
Ira Helms suffered a severe arm wound when a large log rolled on him while chopping on a steep farm slope near Wabash. Neighbor William Murphin bound the bleeding and took him to Elmwood doctor for treatment. He is expected to be laid up for several days.
Miss Mildred Knisley former local teacher and Emer Colbert popular young farmer married on Saturday April 23 1932 at Papillion Nebraska. The bride daughter of A L Knisley Falls City and a Falls City teacher. groom son of Tom Colbert west of Weeping Water and a farmer. They will reside in the community.
Deputy Sheriff J E Lancaster and a U S Department of Justice agent recovered several revolvers stolen from the Iowa National Guard armory in Mason City. The automatics were sold to multiple buyers in Plattsmouth and Union. Suspects were arrested in Omaha and led investigators to the sale locations.
The Glenwood team allied with Co. I National Guard defeated the local city team in two games. In the opener Glenwood won 27 to 13 with Osterholm scoring the only first quarter point for Glenwood. Hamilton Evans led Glenwood in the second quarter with field goals as Wiles Turner stood out for Plattsmouth.
Plattsmouth and Glenwood played a low scoring game with Glenwood leading 16 9 at half and 20 17 after the third. Donat scored in the second half for Plattsmouth while Cheney led Glenwood’s attack as Galloway Merele McCrary and others added baskets. Referee Robert Peru Umpire McCleary Timekeeper Hart.
The south city cattle feeding yards shipped three carloads of fat cattle to Chicago via Burlington on Wednesday. Elmer Doody, yards manager, and his assistants supervised the shipment.
