Jury Awards $4305 in Avoca Eye Injury Case
A jury in Otoe county awarded Louis Speerhase $4305 damages for the loss of an eye after John Rose shot him at a dance in Avoca Nebraska in May 1914. The trial followed proceedings in Cass county and a three day mark at the district court in Otoe county. The case grew from a confrontation at a dance and involved a 22 caliber revolver and subsequent parole for Rose.
