A punchboard scam is described near Weeping Water at Fort George filling station. A salesman sells boards and prizes, then two strangers exploit quick luck to win most prizes with little cash, prompting the owner to alert authorities.
Frank E. Vallery of Omaha reports from Belgrade Nebraska that conditions there are very dry with substantial wheat losses. He recently returned from a business trip and is in town to meet friends and tend to matters.
Evening event in Murray Nebraska District 60 features a Christmas tree and Santa. Ann Harris is the teacher organizer listed with a December 23 date.
In Friday's Daily, city dentists gathered at Hotel Plattsmouth for a noon luncheon and a round table discussion. They agreed all dental offices will be closed on Thursday for the year.
Garden club members meet in the library basement and urge the city to place waste baskets citywide and the school board to provide grounds waste baskets. They push ward by ward improvements including cleans ups alleys trees sidewalks parks and a Lincoln avenue upgrade.
A World War II veteran, recently released from hospital, sang a Christmas greeting in the city business district. Officers investigated the scene and learned he arrived Wednesday en route to Omaha as an American Legion member. He was sheltered for the night and sent on his way in the morning.
W F Evers Nebraska Masonic Home superintendent and Knights Templar leader attended a school of instruction in Auburn. Clarence O Dawson of Blair accompanied him. Grand Commander Edwin Carr and grand inspector general led the session with eighteen commanderies represented at Mt Carmel commandery No 3. Evers also served as inspecting officer at Jordan commandery No 15 in Blair.
Miss Helen M Egenberger the fiancée of Dr Thomas L Rogers will wed February 3 at St Anthony s Rectory Long Beach California The couple s engagement is announced after Miss Egenberger traveled through the Midwest and on the West Coast with family and friends.
Mrs Ralph Wehrbein opened the Presbyterian Federation Christmas party at K C Hall with a Christmas story and prayer. Fourth grade students from Columbian presented Dickens Christmas Carol directed by Miss Margaret Iverson. George Attebury played Scrooge Norma Spidell the angel Carl Grossman Tiny Tim and others. The program closed with Silent Night sung by the children and a high school sextette led by Harriett Goos Eleanor Minor and others accompanied by Miss Birdie Mae Johnson.
Charles K Bestor and Brian Golding of this city plan a winter vacation trip starting at month end. They will motor to the west coast via the southern route for several months among old friends and relatives. They expect a pleasant time and chances to meet Cass county natives now living in Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Mason Wall, badly burned in a truck fire, has returned from Sabetha Kansas to his home. He had remained in the hospital in grave condition for days but has made progress though still suffering from burns. His mother Mrs Chester Wall his brother Donald Wall and Russell Arnold drove to Sabetha to bring him home.
George Gustavson Greenwood night marshal chased a bandit crew trying to force entry into the Union State bank and U S post office building. A gun battle left Gustavson wounded in the calf but not seriously hurt. robbers believed linked to a Nebraska spree, description unavailable due to darkness.
Last evening residents of the U S forestry camp north of the city hosted a pleasant entertainment for camp residents. James Sandin read, Billie Rose Canterbury sang and danced, and Doris Canterbury performed tap and acrobatics with Elva Olson at the piano.
Judge-elect William M. Kieck orders a dusty Cass county district court flag cleaned to restore its colors. Fred Lugsch, a local dry cleaner and war veteran, will perform the free cleaning for the county.
Charles K. Bester spent a few hours in Lincoln on Friday for business and returned with his niece Miss Lois Bester a University of Nebraska student known for her outstanding academic record. Lois will stay for the holidays and return to her studies after the new year.
Pottsmouth high school’s Platters beat Tecumseh Indians 12 to 9 in the season opener. McCarroll led the scoring with eight points and strong defense limited Tecumseh, while Miller, Seitz, and Wooster ran the floor effectively. Falk was sidelined by a tooth extraction as Hayes and Reed filled in at forward.
In a junior game the Blues of the eighth grade defeated the Whites 328 to 11. The Blues led throughout and a White player accidentally scored two own goals. The next platter game is set for January 5 with Ashiend.
Cass county reports a gang raided three farms near the city on Friday taking dozens of chickens. Donald Born's west of the city lost 25 to 30 birds, John S. Vallery southwest of Mynard reported about 60 birds missing, and Roy Tschirren's farm saw 50 to 60 birds stolen. Sheriff Homer Sylvester searched for leads.
Miss Emma Viola Nelson of Weeping Water wed Harris Emerald of Valentine Nebraska with Judge A H Duxbury presiding. The ceremony took place Thursday afternoon and was followed by congratulations at Weeping Water residence. A second simple ceremony united Grace Hinch of Bridgewater Nebraska and Orlando Everett Weaver of Greenfield Nebraska performed by Rev V C Wright.
Herbert Meisinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Meisinger, visited the city Friday to have his left index finger dressed after a farm accident. He was helping Antonio Meisinger with butchering when a sharp knife caused a severe slash. Medical treatment was required and the injury is reported to be healing well.
County Clerk George R. Sarles has received the 1927 hunting and fishing licenses and new trapping licenses. They can be issued immediately and are valid for the rest of the 1936 season and the coming year. Inquiries have increased as licenses become available to the public.
Improving farm to market roads will directly benefit all residents in Cass County by easing transport for crops and goods. Local officials emphasize better routes for farmers, merchants, and families, aiming to reduce travel time and vehicle wear.
Numerous Nebraska students head home for holidays from the university and Lincoln schools. Names include Dorothy Farmer and Lois Giles with their families, Clement and Herbert Sundstrom, Richard Spander, Charles Walden, Robert Hall, Anna Margaret and Flord McCarty, Edwin Kalina, Irma Pittman, Joe Hendrix, Frederick Fricke, George Adam, Kenneth Armstrong, Stuart Porter, Donald Conner, Kelen Gilmour, June Sumner, and others returning to their homes for vacation with relatives across Omaha and Lincoln areas.
News comes from California of the death of Mrs. John Murray formerly Miss Ina Young, a Cass county native. She married and farmed in Nebraska then Oklahoma before dying in LaVerne. Her body will be returned to Nebraska for funeral at Otterbein church and cemetery early next week. She was a niece of Mrs. Charlie Troop of this city.

Father J. J. Hofman the new St. Patrick’s Catholic pastor at Manley spent the day in the city visiting with Father Agius and Father Mosler. The newly installed pastor aims to begin his work with renewed activity in the parish.
Mr and Mrs Frank A Cloidt depart Lindsey for Sumnerfield Kansas to attend the wedding of Walter W Beegs an old time friend. Cloidt will sing At Dawning as part of the ceremony and join the bridal party.
