Cattle Rescued From Missouri River by Steamer Crew
Three cows belonging to Co. L. Spidell were seen floundering in the Missouri river near Gouch enour's island. The Mary Swift stopped on captain’s orders and crew, led by Skip Higgins, saved the cows from drowning. Mr. Spidell's property was preserved by the timely halt of the boat.

Emma Jane Gilmore born February 17 1863 near Weeping Water Nebraska Territory was daughter of John and Neary Gilmore and married Asa A. Davis. She endured early Cass County settlement hardships and community life including a district schoolhouse meeting in 1872. She died December 4 1825 two hours after prayers, funeral held December 6, buried at Oakwood Cemetery beside her husband.
