Mrs. James F. Banning, hospitalized two weeks, worsened Saturday with acute appendicitis. Dr. Allison of Omaha performed an operation Sunday removing the vermiform appendix and a cystic tumor. Hog Thief Takes Wylie Mead’s Smoked Meat

Mrs W A Johnson died after a long illness on Sunday December 1 at age 72. Born in Chandlers Cross Ireland she came to America in 1871 and married W A Johnson in 1877. She lived in Louisville twenty one years and was a Catholic. Funeral from Manley Catholic church Tuesday at 10 a.m. Father Hennessey officiated. Brothers Philip and Patrick Brady of Des Moines Iowa attended. Her husband receives general sympathy. Louisville Courier.

A. B. Burger recalls a record cold winter fifty-one years ago in Mills County. Snow packed ten to twelve feet in places and the Missouri River froze until March. He notes wolves scarce food and farmers losing chickens as wolves prowled. His wife’s relatives crossed the Big Muddy on sleds from Nebraska. The storm began December 1 and lasted three days.

Warden Beemer Reports Six Months Penitentiary Costs
The semi annual report filed with the governor shows for the six months ending November 30 1907 convicts earned 15156.99 of which 39082.54 is unpaid by the prison contractor. Total maintenance cost was 37696.23 and per capita cost 98.72. Net per capita cost to the state 45.69. Convicts earned 9007.60 in repairs and improvements and 3872.07 in farm produce consumed. Harry Gilmore died at his Omahas home Wednesday afternoon at age sixty six. Born in Cayuga County New York he moved to St Louis as a boy and entered steamboat service before switching to railroads. He rose from train boy to yardmaster and later division superintendent with Union Pacific and Missouri Pacific. Funeral services under the Masons were set for 2 pm Friday with interment in Grand Island.
