Deserters Captured After Missouri River Crossing

Two U.S. Army deserters, Frank Stortz and Carry Hymer, were captured near Bartlett Iowa after escaping with armed guards. Wade the guard was aided by Al Haney and others in recapturing them and returning to Fort Crook. Wade remained a fugitive until recaptured with the deserters.

Little Red Riding Hood Charm at South Park School

May Tutt assisted by Hilda Barwick and Miss Koffman trained a South Park girls class for the juvenile play Little Red Riding Hood performed at the Putt residence. Over a hundred parents and neighbors attended and praised the show as a success. Sixteen girls acted with Beulah Miner Grace Barstow Oma Gibson and Jessie Skelsie in leading roles while cakewalks singing and Sherwood orchestra provided interludes.

Last evening at 8 30 at Oliver Rakes residence in the fifth ward Judge Archer officiated a marriage between Robert Rakes and Hannah Mc Culley both well known young residents of the city. A large number of friends witnessed the ceremony and offered congratulations.

Death of John Robbins Sr in Plattsmouth

John Robbins Sr died last Saturday from internal hemorrhage after a Friday night hernia operation. Born in McArthur Ohio he was 65 and a Civil War veteran of the 11th Ohio Heavy Artillery. He lived in Plattsmouth since 1878 and worked as a contractor and builder. Survived by wife two sons Bushrod Denver and John D Chicago and three daughters Mrs Richardson Mrs Patterson and Emma. Funeral held Monday at 11 with Rev Youtzy and Rev Baird. G A R conducted grave ceremony. pallbearers named.

Funeral services for Steven A. Davis held at family home

Funeral services for Steven A. Davis were held at the family residence with Rev. Asa Sleeth officiating. A large gathering of relatives and friends attended. The procession moved to Mt. Pleasant cemetery for interment after visiting his mother seven miles south of Mt. Pleasant. Assisting mourners included F. E. White and others.

Wet Week Delays Harvests Yet Boosts Corn Prospects

A cool wet spell kept eastern counties three degrees below normal and western areas one degree low. Rainfall generally exceeded an inch, with two to four inches in many eastern and southern parts, while northwest saw under half an inch. Haying slowed and some hay was damaged. thrashing continues in the north and grain damage occurred. Corn has grown well and should yield large, though ripening requires warmth. soil and pastures are in excellent shape for plowing and seeding.

Labor Day Openings In Plattsmouth Bridge Celebration

Plattsmouth celebrates Labor Day Monday with a new wagon bridge over the Missouri River by the Plattsmouth Pontoon Bridge Company. A morning parade follows with races of all kinds and tug of war events between Mills and Cass counties and between Iowa and Nebraska youths. Prizes honor Mills county’s heaviest and lightest man as the I. and M. band plays and bridge passage is free all day, drawing a large crowd.

Drowned Nebraska Railroad Official C P Olson

Charles P Olson of Lincoln Neb drowned when he fell from the Mary Hill steamer near Burlington Iowa during an excursion. The body was found at Montrose twenty three miles below Stirlington and will be brought to Lincoln with funeral plans to follow.

Two youths arrested in Nitka assault case facing charges

Sam Lindsey and Harry Wickson were arrested in Louisville by Marshal Spence and jailed in this city after being found in the area. Lindsey confessed to fighting and was fined five dollars plus costs. Wickson sought a trial as to his role, which a judge postponed. Both men claim intoxication and say Lindsey struck Nitka, while Wickson denies involvement.

Married at Murray Millinger and McDonald wed at home

Williard L. Millinger of Bethany Nebraska and Grace V. McDonald were married at high noon Wednesday at the bride’s parents home in Murray. Rev Swander performed the ceremony. A large number of friends attended and a sumptuous wedding feast followed. The Journal extends best wishes for long life and happiness.
