Edward Ripple Laid To Rest In Plattsmouth Ceremonies
Edward Conrad Ripple 1894 1918 was buried after a full veterans funeral in Cass County Iowa. The service featured a parade from the courthouse to Garfield Park and Oak Hill Cemetery with the American Legion firing squad and a drum corps. Ripple died June 28 1918 near Hill 212 during the Chateau Thierry front while serving with the 168th Infantry Rainbow Division in World War I.

Picnic at Cedar Creek Camp With Foster and Connors Families
The W C Foster family hosted a lakeside gathering at Cedar Creek with the Connors Herohd and Mansfield households. Eighteen guests enjoyed swimming and a hearty fried bacon and potato meal despite a brief shower. Harry Connors, recently back after a six week layoff, swam across the lake and outshined the others. The Foster party stayed over Sunday while others departed late.

Mrs Kennedy Laid To Rest In Plattsmouth
Funeral services for Mrs Hebecca Kennedy were held Saturday at the First Methodist Church in Plattsmouth. Rev W N Austin led the service with songs by Mrs E H Wescott and others. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs Kennedy, born October 21 1836 in Albany New York, had lived in Plattsmouth many years and was active in church and community work. She married William W Kennedy in 1857. he died in the Civil War and she later lived in Knoxville and returned to Plattsmouth with daughter Ella and siblings Mrs Rose Kenney Mrs Laura Petersen and Sam E Davis.

George Conis presented a silk banner and matching American flag to the local American Legion post. The banner features gold lettering on blue silk with a large Legion emblem, a brass eagle on the pole, and yellow silk fringe with tassels. It cost $8 and arrived just before yesterday’s funeral procession ceremony.

Seventy One Year Old Burrows Released From Penitentiary
Henry Burrows, aged seventy one, freed from the Cass county penitentiary after parole board review. He was convicted of murdering his friend William Sayles at Sayles' home south of town on Christmas Day. Burrows hoped to return to England to spend his final days with childhood scenes and kin, after years of imprisonment following a drunken quarrel that ended in Sayles' killing.

Heavy Rain Causes Bridge Washout in Nehawka Area

A twenty foot steel stringer bridge over the north branch of the Weeping Water near the Hay Pollard farm was washed out, forcing the roadway closure. Repair will be costly and extensive.
