Plano authorities vow strict enforcement of the fireworks ban amid holiday concerns. Police report 116 nuisance calls, six arrests, and four juvenile citations as officials warn of serious injuries from sparklers and bottle rockets. Fire Marshal Threet stresses no fireworks and urges public displays instead.
A large turnout is expected for the Bob Hendricks Appreciation Dinner at Lake Lavon Country Club Princeton. Hendricks in the Texas House since 1967 worked on school finance for Plano ISD and led several bills in the 65th Legislature. Training includes monthly sessions and Texas A&M seminars with plans to replace the aging 1948 LaFrance pumper.
Advertising manager Tim Vickery announces July 1 rate increases for classified ads. For 20 words or less the prices are 2.40 for one insertion 5.50 for three 6.90 for five 12 for 10 and 20 for 20 insertions. He cites higher paid circulation and alignment with other newspapers.
