City Council backs full reevaluation to ease tax deadlock

The City Council endorsed a plan to revalue all property for the 1977 tax roll to resolve a deadlock with the PISD Board over the joint tax office. Weekend Burglaries Reported In Plano Area

Plano police logged seven motor vehicle burglaries and two home burglaries over the weekend with one additional vehicle burglary attempt. The day’s activity included six thefts eight cases of criminal mischief 151 calls answered and property recovered including a bicycle a camera stereo tapes and two rounds of 20 mm ammunition. Eleven people were arrested including three for driving while intoxicated two juveniles for criminal mischief two for illegal entry two for traffic one for disorderly conduct and one for public intoxication. Five accidents were reported. Major injuries occurred when James Compton Shanks lost control of a 1974 Ford on US 75 striking the Parker Rd overpass he was hospitalized. Other collisions involved a 1965 Pontiac a 1973 Ford owned by the Plano Independent School District and a 1974 Chevrolet. Two-vehicle collisions also occurred in the Papeete alley between Mary Hays Shupe and Eddie Gaines.

PISD Offers Defensive Driving Course At Williams High

The National Safety Council course returns with eight hours of instruction for Planeites on June 22 and 24 at Williams High School. Enrollment is limited to 35, with a $6 registration due by June 21. Short Collin County Court Clears Minutes and Refunds

Commissioner Bailey Dickerson led a brief session as County Judge Nathan E. White Jr. was away. The court approved prior minutes and financials, issued tax refunds to Clint Hackney for 27.18 and Bill Kreymer for 25.21, and authorized May financials, accounts payable for Collin Memorial Hospital, plus a site clearance change order for the courthouse jail complex.

Blaze Damages Plano Home on Saturday Morning

A fire at the home of Alice Lyon in Plano caused extensive heat and smoke damage after starting in a utility closet likely from an electrical short to a dryer. Ten firefighters and four pieces of equipment responded to the 9:50 a.m. alarm and the blaze was contained to the closet. The department also handled 14 ambulance runs and extinguished a small trash fire at a construction site and two vehicle fires.

Plano Bicentennial Parade Entries Deadline Set

Florence Shapiro announces a June 18 deadline for parade entries for the Plano Bicentennial parade held July 3 at 10 a.m. Grand Marshal Jim Bannon leads a route from Williams High School to Harrington Park with planned noon activities and a city picnic. Flags for sale via the Chamber of Commerce, delivery fee eight dollars.
