Plano General Hospital Institutes Rape Victim Policy

Plano General Hospital and the Plano Police Dept. announce a new policy to accept any rape victim at no charge. Local physicians oversee examinations and evidence gathering, which is sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for analysis. Evidence is transported by Plano Police to Parkland Memorial Hospital. Counseling is available at the hospital.

Forman Fifth Graders Stay at Elementary for Now

School trustees reversed an August plan to move fifth graders to Armstrong Middle School. The decision keeps Forman students on their current campus for the first months of classes, addressing parental concern about younger students on a middle school site near Armstrong.

Plano Bicentennial Parade officials announce 57 entries including 13 floats stagecoach walking units and horses. Grand marshal Jim Bannon leads the parade July 3 from Williams High School to Harrington Park with a post event city picnic and band The Travelers.

Heavy Rains Flood Houston

Seven hours of rain surpassing 10 inches flooded Houston killing a child and disrupting commuters hospital staff and baseball players. Civil Defense warned of possible further casualties while shelters opened in east and north Houston. Freeways flooded stranded motorists and six inches of rain fell in downtown in four hours. Methodist Hospital reported six feet of water in its basement as pumps and auxiliary power were deployed.

Burglaries And Thefts Reported In Police Log

Several thefts and burglaries were reported Monday with a paint sprayer two plants three bicycles one set of hubcaps and two bicycle wheels stolen. Four motor vehicles two residences and the Mobil Service Station at Preston and eM h44 burglarized. Nine arrests including two juveniles for burglary two for criminal trespass two for marijuana possession one for no license and one on a Fort Worth warrant. Officers handled 58 calls for assistance two reported crimes and three accidents. Seven year old Matthew Freeman injured on Edgefield with $8 bicycle damage and a 1974 Chevrolet driven by James David Terrell involved.
