Firefighters Contain Three Weekend Grass Fires
Fire department battled three grass fires over the weekend amid hot dry conditions. A wheat field in Parker was reported Saturday at 10 39 a.m. near Air Park Sunday at 10 36 p.m. and North Star Road Monday at 11 06 a.m. Crews also doused a transformer a car and a fence at 1455 Waterton. They answered 15 ambulance calls and rendered 10 miscellaneous services.

Burglaries and Vandalism Reported This Weekend
The Trading Post and POWER Inc were burglarized Saturday night with cash missing. A home at 3011 W 15th owned by M E Morgan Co had paint and varnish damage on Sunday. Police recovered a television and stereo equipment and logged five criminal mischief reports and five thefts. Officers answered 172 calls and arrested 10 people including a 28 year old man and a 24 year old woman for growing marijuana.

Planning and Zoning Commission Fails to Meet
Commissioners could not form a quorum for the regular session as three members were out of town. A special meeting will be held later this week to review site plans and plats, and public hearings are rescheduled for the next regular meeting on June 20.

Plano honors Louise Ernestine Rammers Schimelpfenig founder of the area’s first free public lending library. A new library at Custer Rd and Spring Creek will be named for L E R Schimelpfenig as the city plans a second library next year. She led a Juvenile Missionary and Aid Society for girls 8 to 16, built book lists from her own library, and served the WCTU. born 1857 in Louisville she moved to Plano with Fred Schimelpfenig in 1878 after marrying in 1876.

Escapee and Drug King Arrested in Irving Breakout Figure Nabbed in Texas
Convicted or accused of crimes in four states, Tom Lester Pugh 39 and associate Thomas Eugene Cawthron 26 were captured in Irving after an October escape from Eddyville Kentucky. Pugh had operated a prison drug ring across five states and was linked to murders and witness killings. Extradition planned to Kentucky. charges include firearm possession and aggravated robbery.
