Planning and Zoning Commissioners plan a long evening with four public hearings and four plans. Cambridge Companies seeks annexation of 118 acres at Carpenter Road and Alma Drive with mixed SF-4A and retail zoning.
Speaker Bill Clayton calls this 140 day session the best and worst of times as anticrime measures pass while a $900 million school finance bill dies in a rural urban clash. Sen. Mauzy defers a vote citing time and edits, House sponsors blame him. A special session may hinge on school finance compromise. Governor Briscoe ties a call to Senate and House agreement.
Plano Independent School District shows a 12.1 percent rise in 1976-77 enrollment, reaching 17,465 students. The gain reflects 2,010 more students than last May and follows 11.9 percent growth in 1975-76. Saigling Elementary will open Aug 24 as growth continues across the 114 square mile district.
School trustees will consider two new policies and amend a third at the 7:30 p.m. meeting at the Administration Building. An executive session will precede the open session to discuss site and personnel matters.
Registration for summer school continues at Sigler Elementary and Williams High School with programs for first through twelfth graders. Elementary classes run 8 am to noon until July 1 under Jim Johns. secondary classes 7 45 am to noon June 6 to July 26 under Doyle Dean.
The City Council and Library Board will hold a joint meeting at Gladys Harrington Public Library. The council starts at 5:30 p.m. to discuss data processing needs, and the board joins at 6:30 p.m. to review library computer needs and select an architect for a west side library. Civil defense plans also on the agenda.
