A fast moving winter storm drove temperatures down to 12 degrees at Dalhart and into the teens across the Panhandle. Freezing warnings extended to the coast as winds up to 50 mph gusted north, with limited snow but heavy wind chills and overturned trailers reported near Guadalupe Pass. Nationwide, blizzard conditions and freezing rain hit the central U.S. as the front moved southeast.

A mother Elizabeth Forest and her five children Michael Loreen Lilly Mae Cassie and Issac aged 3 to 8 died in an Orlando Holden Heights fire caused by a candle after power was cut for nonpayment. Two other families escaped and were relocated to temporary lodging at Orange County Memorial Hospital.
