The Jerusalem Post reports four European airlines may have paid Arab guerrillas millions to gain immunity from hijackings. The airlines reportedly calculated it cheaper to pay than to security-build against attacks.
At a special meeting Plano Independent School District trustees issued a firm discipline statement praising the district's 99 percent well behaved student body and directing Superintendent Dr. H Wayne Hendrick to take steps to insure strict discipline. The board also adopted the amended 1972-73 budget with a net increase of 140,282 driven by higher revenues from 97 percent tax collections and stronger attendance and interest earnings, plus a larger debt service.
Collins County Sheriff George Smith told commissioners he may resign after vacation noting extreme budgeting limits and court-system friction. He says he cannot enforce the law with insufficient staff and equipment, hinting his deputy may be promoted if he resigns. The board plans a bond vote on courthouse jail replacement. juvenile housing limits loom after Sept. 1.
Texas 18 year olds gain full legal rights after May Legislature action raising age from 21 to 18. Residents in Plano show broad support for new privileges including alcohol sales and abortion access with Cyndee Vines praising the changes as empowering and safer for young women.
A letter from West Plano residents denounces prior knowledge of a three-issue Plano Star Courier ad asking if a motel should be in the neighborhood. The group forms The West Plano Homeowners Association to represent homeowners near the new hospital and related facilities west of FM 544 and Custer Road.
Trustees and leaders outline a 101 acre Westside High School in south Plano with a four-building core. The design uses a slope to create two story appearances, includes a Business Humanities Building, Science Industry Building, Media Commons, and Performing Arts and Activities centers serving about 650 students. Outdoor fields and tennis courts border on Haggard Middle School as part of the site plan.
