Editorial Comment Police, Schools And Prevention
Tim Elledge argues policing must shift from force to community prevention. He cites a Plano ward off car trouble with officer aid, cites Katzenbach’s view that police spend under 20 percent on crime, and profiles Menlo Park chief Victor Cizankis who demilitarized and expanded community programs. He warns failure to reform risks a crisis in policing and notes Plano High School’s stabbing prompts a hard line from the school board to keep schools safe.
