Passages of Loss in Plainfield Families

A double funeral for Mrs. Frances V. Jones and her son Gifford Jones was held after their deaths at their Park avenue home. Mrs. Jones, 62, widow of David Jones, leaves a daughter Mrs. Chester A. Rope and sons William of New Haven and Ridward of Plainfield. Gifford, 26, long a Plainfield resident and known as "Py" from youth sports, was employed at a Park avenue meat market. The borough honors the two as a sudden bereavement shaken the community. Interment was at Hillside cemetery. Pallbearers included Mundy, Howard Sergeant, and others. Also noted is the recent death of Aaron Little Jimerson, Plainfield’s longtime resident, with services at the Scotch Plains church and burial at Scotch Plains cemetery. Jimerson, born May 19, 1832 in Round Brook, leaves a widow, three children, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a brother, Albert J. Jimerson. The piece also reports the death of Mrs. Mary Lyons Kelley of 662 West Fourth Street after ten days of paralysis. She came from Ireland and lived in Plainfield most of her life with her husband John Kelley. Nine children, two sisters, and several relatives survive. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church with a large turnout. interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
