The Y M C A at Piotow field branch hosts its annual circus in the gymnasium of the station building on Fast street tomorrow night. Men and boys have worked weeks to meet last year's standard. special acts are planned outside the legitimate circus, including a contortionist. Death Comes To a Noted Local Jurist

Walter Levi Hetfeld a Plainfield jurist known for service on the county court died after a two year illness. Born 1856 he studied law with William L. Maxton and was a respected member of the Plainfield Bar Association. The funeral featured clergy from the First Methodist and First Baptist churches with a graveside service in Evergreen Cemetery.

At a meeting of St Marys T A B Boe to be held in West Fourth street tonight plans are made for the forty fifth anniversary observance on May 20. A monster banquet in T A B Hall on May 21 is likely with five hundred diners and speakers of state and national prominence. Monsignor Coty of St Parish Newark has signified intent to attend and organ the Plainfield T A B Society in 1872. John Barry and John Walsh are the surviving charter members. The society, strong and active, has about 232 members and a well equipped building on West Fourth street where about 100 attend nightly. Joseph T McCue will likely be elected president for the coming year.

Mrs Joseph A Haynes Suffers Leg Loss in Amputation

Mrs Joseph A Haynes long time city resident recently living with her daughter Mrs Frank Palmer of Fanwood underwent an operation at Muhlenberg Hospital eleven days ago resulting in amputation of her right leg due to worsening condition. Surgeons Dr Hellees and Dr Endicott performed the procedure and the patient is reported to be resting comfortably.

Plainfielders to Build Submarine Chaser for War Effort

Warren Ackerman and Reginald Rowland lead Plainfielders in raising funds to construct a fast submarine chaser for WWI service. Over half of the $23,000 goal has been collected with several $1,000 donations. The shipyard build is underway with Ackerman, Rowland, Thomas Fraser, Oresham Sharp, Jack Ceuninly and others slated for crew roles. The vessel will patrol the New England coast and serve as a warning and defense against German submarines once completed.
