Home-coming day at the Christian church featured an all‑day program and basket dinner. Rev. Edwin S. Sweeney preached on The Church as a Family in the morning. Rev. Verle W. Heavy Registration In Guilford Township After Women’s Enfranchisement
In Guilford township last Saturday a surge of voter registration occurred. Precinct 1 clerks A D Johnson and Jos E Prewitt recorded 200 men and 187 women at the Building and Loan office. Precinct 2 clerks Everett Newlin and P A Hagee registered 98 men and 87 women at the library. Precinct 3 workers Nina D Duke and Charles Bockius registered 186 men and 167 women at the I O O F building. The first voters in each precinct were women Lilian Cope Jane Newlin and Elsie Hadley. Mrs Newlin, 68, had long claimed she would not vote if women gained franchise but joined the turnout.
