Purdue Round-Up Draws 1400 Youths For Largest U S Event

About 1400 Indiana boys and girls attended the Purdue University round-up May 3 to 6 making it the largest such event in the nation. Counties won multiple judging contests in cattle, eggs, garments, bread and more with awards of silver cups and medals. Demonstrations by faculty and extension workers complemented lectures and an egg show plus an egg barbecue and entertainment by the university band.

Plainfield residents plan a community Clean-up Day on Wednesday May 18 with neighbors promising cooperation to burn trash remove rubbish and beautify the city after the event.

Mother's Day Observances Across Local Churches

Churches held Mother's Day services with prayers and music. Attendance at Sunday school reached 2387 with solos, duets, and instrumental numbers by local performers including Mrs. Maurice Barker Carl Dot Melba Bly Jessie Mercer Lloyd Dixon and Orla Jordan. The Brownsburg Christian Endeavor Society sent eighteen delegates to a youth event. Local quartets performed at Baptist and Methodist services.

Methodist Church Evangelistic Services Report

Evangelistic services began at the Methodist Church Sunday evening with good attendance. The Rev. Fisk of Avon assisted with music on Monday evening. Amo Alumni Banquet Honors Class of 1902 Attendance

The Amo High School Alumni Association held its banquet in the school assembly room with about 75 attendees. Harvey Hessler presided, C. A. Phillips acted as toastmaster, and speakers included J. A. Stevenson Murray Morris Winifred Fuson and Elsie Phillips. A DePauw orchestra provided music and the silver cup for highest attendance went to the class of 1902.

Purdue Egg Show Attracts 720 Entries From 12 States

The thirteenth annual Purdue egg show held at Purdue University May 3 to 6 drew 720 entries from 12 states. Boys and girls club entries from all grades and schools were strong, while commercial and fanciers classes exceeded 100 entries each. Sweepstakes were awarded to Jonas Mier Poultry Farm of Indianapolis for twelve white extras.

Red Cross Conference Set for Indianapolis Region Meetings

The Indiana Red Cross plans a series of regional conferences to improve community use of Red Cross resources. The Indianapolis meeting on May 19 will cover permanent membership, garment production for European children, disaster preparedness, First Aid at county fairs, salvage shops, and Junior Red Cross growth. Thirty representatives of the Women's Missionary Society of the Christian Church attended the county missionary rally at North Salem on Tuesday. Attendees included the Rev. and Mrs. Hedges, officers Mrs. George Mercer, Mrs. Ralph Bly, Mrs. Viela Almond, and Mrs. C. G. Cumberworth district secretary. Brotherhood Meets at Friends Church Social

The Penn Brotherhood of the Friends church hosted a guest evening last Thursday with ladies entertained. George Hadley Wendell Stephenson and Ernest Heringlake delivered tributes to mothers. The program included talks readings games and refreshments of ice cream and cake.

Indianapolis man Jesse Rice dies. funeral held in local area

Jesse Rice of Indianapolis died Tuesday morning at nine. Funeral services were conducted at the Vollertus Mission at 10:30 Thursday with burial in Danville. He was the father of Mrs. Eli Gentry and survived by eight children.

Former Governor Ralston delivered a Sunday afternoon address at the Indiana Boys' School chapel urging the boys to set an objective and pursue it in their careers. He praised mothers, especially Lincoln's mother, in a service also featuring Rev. S. L. Essick who offered similar praises to mothers.

Indiana Appellate Court Judge Solon A. Enloe of Indianapolis is critically ill at his Danville home after suffering an attack Saturday afternoon. He collapsed while playing croquet in his yard and was found unconscious.

Obituary of Marion Jordan A lifelong Indiana minister’s son dies at 46

Marion Jordan born February 27 1875 in eastern Tennessee son of Charles and Nancy Jordan. He married Mollie Ramsey in 1899 and had Gladys Love Marion Herman and Jennie. The family moved across Illinois Kentucky Washington and finally settled in Hendricks County Indiana. He joined Plainfield Methodist Church and worked hard to provide for his home. He died May 4 1921 at age 46 after years of ill health and left a testimony of readiness for the afterlife.
