Historic hotel torn down near Van Buren Elm site
The famed hotel once tied to Van Buren’s night before his inauguration has been wrecked. Carpentry crews removed the structure, its materials to be reused in other buildings. It stood where the Citizens State Bank now sits and was later moved to the Mattern and Douglas lot before sale to Edgar McConough. The rear portion owned by Emmett Bly will be removed.

Sugar Grove Nursing Class Completes Red Cross Course
The Sugar Grove Class in Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick under Miss Lydia Jordan from the Red Cross Department of Nursing completed fifteen lessons. Examinations occurred Wednesday and Saturday at the homes of Mrs. Edward Edgerton and Mrs. Sylvester Jones. The class began in March with 12 members, eight finished due to illness, with five weeks of instruction meeting twice weekly at the Sugar Grove School or members’ homes.
