Special Election on Thirteen Proposed Constitutional Amendments

A special election will be held September 6 1921 across Indiana to vote on thirteen amendments to the state constitution. Local team defeats Clermont 6-5 with solid pitching and clutch defense. Next Sunday they travel to Danville to face a strong aggregation. Harry Spear sprained his ankle in Sunday's game.

Correction: No speeding arrest actually made last week

The Messenger's previous report of a speeding arrest is corrected. The marshal did not arrest anyone after presenting a violator to the squire. no complaint was filed under oath and no warrant issued, so the matter was dropped.

Alonzo Little Dies at 71 Near Cartersburg

Alonzo Little died at his home half a mile south of Cartersburg after an extended rheumatism illness. He was 71. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the home by Rev. A. L. Meredith, with burial in Irons cemetery. He leaves a widow Mrs. Mattie Little a half brother Calvin Little of Clayton and a half sister Mrs. Anna Hinshaw.

Chicago University appoints Catherine Moore aide to president

Miss Catherine Moore, daughter of Addison W. Moore of Chicago and granddaughter of John S. Moore of this place, is named aide to the president of the University of Chicago. The post requires handling public university functions and reflects high scholastic standing. Her poem published in New Republic and favorable reviews propelled the honor.

Three local lodges held semi annual elections for six month terms. Elected officers include I O R M Sachem Paul Campbell and Junior Sagamore Omer Herring with Senior Sagamore Elmer Stephens on. Prophets Cecil Winsted and district deputy Ed Robinson plus trustee Ross Winsted. Also chosen as Great Council representatives are Merle McKnight Ed Robinson and Ross Winsted. Farmers report wheat in the region may average higher than last year though statewide projections show a weaker crop. Posey County records the first threshing in the state this season as local wheat begins to yellow.

Nazarene Church Holds Two Weeks Revival on East Main

The Church of the Nazarene purchased a lot on East Main Street in Horace Hanna and has pitched a tent for a two weeks revival now in progress. Meetings previously occurred in the I. O. R. M. building. A future building on the new lot is planned.

Oil discovery reported in Brazoria area tract

Emmett Bly received a letter from Pharoh H. Hill of Brazoria Texas reporting abundant oil on the S. M. Williams League. Hill says gas forced crude oil from the river bottom, calling it a freak of nature and not a wildcat, with regional farms nearby and development needed.

Mrs Belle Brown dies in Seattle and burial planned

Mrs Belle Brown widow of Mrs Brown died in Seattle Washington last Thursday. The body will be brought to Irvington for burial Friday and interment will be made at Greencastle. She is an aunt of Mrs G G Cumberworth of this place.

Wilbur Johnson Pleads Guilty in Support Case

Wilbur Johnson pleaded guilty in Hendricks county court to an affidavit filed by the prosecuting attorney charging failure to support his wife Agnes Campbell Johnson. He was fined and sentenced to the penal form, but the sentence was suspended on condition he pays eight dollars weekly. A one thousand dollar bond was posted. The court order remains in effect for two years. Johnson has returned to work in Chicago, where he was arrested last Thursday by the sheriff.

Ref reformatory site chosen in Indiana plan

The reformatory commission selects the Putnamville site for the new Indiana Reformatory set to replace the Jeffersonville location. The facility will sit adjacent to the Indiana State Farm and was announced Monday.

Free Transport of Relief Supplies Authorized

The local agent of the Pennsylvania has been authorized to transport free shipments of money and supplies for relief purposes. Items are sent to Pueblo to the mayor, to the Red Cross, or to any recognized relief organization.

Purdue Summer School Reaches Record Enrollment in June

Purdue University hosts its largest summer school with an enrollment of 150, up from 40 last year. The program, reopened after the war, will feature a vocational agriculture conference for teachers, superintendents, and others the week of June 15 to 18.

Citizens' Training Camp at Camp Knox in July

Applications are open for a Citizens' Training Camp at Camp Knox Kentucky from July 21 to August 20. Farmers Meet Debates Threshers Dinner Justice

An interesting township farmers meeting was held at the library last Wednesday evening. Policies relative to national legislation were discussed. A debate on the resolution that serving dinners to threshers is an injustice to the farmer's wife was decided in the affirmative.
