Chautauqua Organizes for Coming Season

At a Rushtons office meeting the Chautauqua guarantors elected officers and chairmen for the local unit. The season plans feature three noted speakers a famous lady interpreter a grand opera company a male quartet a concert company Philippine musicians and a seven piece symphony orchestra. The Junior Chautauqua expands with a civic child body meeting a Mayor and Chief of Police. The August 14 138 date was announced. Frank D. Johnston chairs with A D Johnson as vice chair and T O James as treasurer.

McHaffie Mills Wed In Quiet Stilesville Ceremony

Miss Maxine McHaffie daughter of Mr and Mrs Ernest McHaffie and Mr Freeman Mills were married at Forest Home Stilesville on Sunday June 5 at 3 30 pm Rev Mrs H A Hootman performed the ring ceremony in the presence of close relatives and a few friends The service was on the porch with pink roses and ferns A luncheon followed The bride sister Mrs Harry Sharp Matron of Honor maid of honor Ennis Justice The ring bearer Mary Virginia Tharp niece of the bride Best man Jack Shiel Jr Cousin of the bride Mary Warmoth played Mendelssohn and Russell Warmth sang Oh Promise Me The couple left for Chicago and the lakes and will reside at the Mills homestead south of Stilesville.

Red Men Memorial Services for Local Lodge

The annual memorial services of the local I. O. R. M. will be held Sunday, June 12. Members and sojourning brothers are asked to meet at the Wigwam at 2:00 p.m. The I. B. Friends Church Committee Urges End to Evening Socials on Grounds

The Friends Monthly Meeting notes a group of village boys using the Yearly Meeting grounds for a “social hour.” Cigarette stubs found in the basement prompt a safety concern and a call for trespass cessation. The committee warns such gatherings harm boys and urges parents to protect their children.

Sunday June 12 features an all day meeting at the Baptist Home with a basket dinner and a program. The Boone County Guernsey Calf Club Show and Indiana Guernsey Breeders Field Day in Lebanon featured a standout parade of sixty seven calves led by club owners. Methodist Observes Children’s Day With Special Program

The church will hold a Sunday morning Children’s Day program with Sunday school at the usual hour and no preaching service. An expected large audience is urged for the event. Matilda Thompson Dies After Heart Trouble At 80

Matilda Thompson aged about 80, longtime resident here, died Monday at Pine Village home of Mrs. Eric Blind after heart trouble. The body was taken to Hall for funeral and burial Wednesday morning. she was related to Mrs. Maria Brown and other local residents who attended the services.

White Mule Manufacturers Arrested in Township

Allen Cook John O Wilson and Herbert Griffin were arrested on a charge of making white mule to sell. They pleaded guilty and each was fined 100 dollars. Cook's brother Homer L Cook of Indianapolis paid his fine.

Town Board Warns on Sidewalk Bicycles and Street Rules

At the Town Board meeting the town marshal was instructed to enforce ordinances against riding bicycles on sidewalks, parking in alleys, and exceeding the ten mile per hour speed limit after recent violations. The board emphasized strict monitoring and enforcement.

Two Colored Drivers Arrested For Speeding In Pear son Truck

Two colored men, drivers for the Pear son Piano Co., were arrested Monday evening for speeding. The truck moved west earlier in the day and on the return trip at 40 miles per hour was stopped by the squire who imposed no fine.

Wreck on Pennsylvania Derailed Five Freight Cars

A derailed sequence occurred near the Charles Rees crossing west of the station at 2:10 Tuesday when a draw bar on a stock car broke causing six cars to separate from a westbound train. Five cars were badly wrecked though mostly empty. one coal car containing spent tan bark was saved. A cement car stayed on the rails and was moved to Indianapolis by a wrecking train.
