Union churches launch a summer evangelistic series starting Sunday July 2 in the Yearly Meeting room of the Friends church. Attendees will hear music from a dedicated committee while pastors organize leadership. the Christian church hopes to join soon.
T H Stanley formerly of this place died of goiter Monday in Indianapolis. Funeral services were held at 69 N Irvington Wednesday afternoon, followed by burial at Maple Hill cemetery in Plainfield.
Ruth Ann Compton Harvey 53 died at her home southeast of town from paralysis after a third stroke a week earlier. Funeral services were held at her home Thursday at 2:30 pm, with burial at Maple Hill cemetery. Survived by daughter Jennie Belle Harvey, husband Albert M. Harvey, three sisters, two brothers, and mother-in-law Mrs. Mary Ann Harvey.
Miss Portia Cooper of Indiana University Physical Education will offer a rhythmic expression course for graded and high school students and younger children as young as three. Interested people should meet at Miss Cooper's home opposite the Public Library Saturday afternoon June 17 at 2 30 p m.
Dr. LaRue Davis representing the Fish and Game Association and state officials planted 59 000 frye in White Lick Creek last Saturday. The fourth year of stocking by the local organization aims to improve this season's fishing prospects.
A Well-Baby Conference led by county nurse Miss Lila Hescock starts Friday June 23 at 2 30 at the Plainfield Public Library and continues every second Friday for seven weeks. Mothers and those interested in Guilford township are urged to attend for lectures and baby examinations with guidance on prenatal care bath clothing feeding and child care.
The American Legion and the Woman's Auxiliary plan a full day of events in Plainfield including two base ball games a band concert fireworks a carnival and races. A public drinking fountain will be installed and presented to the town during the celebration with support from local businesses and residents.
Hendricks County residents petition lawmakers to prohibit athletic events on Memorial Day May 30. The Hendricks County Legion posts circulate petitions to secure support and signatures in churches and by members.
A horseshoe pitching tournament will be part of the Hendricks county fair at Danville in the fourth week of August. County winners advance to the State fair contest. Two contestants form the county team for the state meet. Rules are posted in the post office.
Hon. Ed Jackson secretary of state gave a splendid talk before the Sunday School last Sunday morning. He praised the young men and Masonry while noting high ideals of youth and forefathers. Horace L Hanna introduced the speaker as music and performances followed.

Fred Bishop of Brooklyn Indiana and Miss Emma Mae Lyon of Mooresville were united in marriage at the Friends parsonage Saturday evening with Rev. Herbert L. Huffman officiating.
Excerpts from Whittier and Rockville papers describe a large gathering at 234 N Painter Ave Whittier for Mr and Mrs Griffith Wm Milhous including family from Whittier La Habra Yorba Linda Anaheim Hollywood and Los Angeles. Milhous, a music teacher, will serve as musical director this season. A sanatorium trustees meeting announced July 12 as cornerstone laying for a new children's building with Governor Warren T McCray slated to speak. Parke Lodge F and A M will assist. Dr Amos Carter was reappointed for the third time and praised for management.
The closing session of the Daily Vacation Bible School will be held Friday morning with invited attendance. The regular program plus special exercises will start at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium. Joints picnics and contests are planned for next Saturday at 2 p.m. on the local church campus. Herman O Miles, Earlham College financial agent, visited Monday seeking funds for a new gymnasium and more than half the amount was raised at commencement.
Miss Katharine Hiatt sustained a badly sprained elbow when her Ford overturned onto an eight foot embankment at a bridge on Avon Ave just north of town. Lawrence, who was with her, escaped injury while Mr. Cox was thrown from the car. Hiatt was taken to Dr Thomas's hospital and remained until Friday before returning to work at the United States Tire Co in Indianapolis.
Mrs Ona Campbell underwent surgery Monday in Indianapolis for suspected gall stones. The operation revealed adhesions caused the trouble. She is resting comfortably and is expected to recover well.
The Woman's Club directed event at the opera house Friday evening was well attended. The Messenger reported the program and added that Mrs. Tinnie Phillips of Los Angeles, formerly of Plainfield, joined with a group of songs that were highly appreciated. The stage setting reflected Ye Olde Times.
The Town Board awarded the preliminary contract for Center and Vine Streets to Oliver J. Larkin of Coatesville for a two course concrete pavement. Bids ranged from Larkin at 43 200.43 and 35 230.98 to McNamara and Krebay of Indianapolis higher. Property owners can petition by June 23 to request alternate materials. final contract and start dates set for July with street openings by November 1.
Wendell Stephenson, back from a year at Indiana University, received the Wm. H. Locke prize of 56 dollars for the best essay on the Civil War. His subject was Anglo American Diplomatic Relations Relative to the Civil War.
Ernest Heringlake as Town Clerk will hold office in Joseph Prewitt's room under the National Bank. Office hours are 7 to 9 on Monday and Thursday evenings.
The I. O. R. M. Lodge held memorial services for departed brothers on Sunday afternoon. M. E H. Foley of Indianapolis delivered an eloquent address. The cemetery procession was led by the Indiana Boys' School band.
