Plainfield Fourth of July Celebrations Draw Record Crowd
The American Legion staged a large Fourth of July celebration in Plainfield with a morning Old Timers vs Legion ball game won by the Legion 12 to 10. Afternoon features saw the local team lose 7 to 6 to Indianapolis Favorite A. C. In pushmobile contests local entrants outshined rivals. Donations from the auction netted a healthy sum for the Legion as nightfall brought street dancing, a fountain presentation by Robert McCullough and Horace Hanna, and eight reels of cinema staged by Legion representatives. The I. B. S. Band and Hoosier Harmony five from Greencastle provided music for the day.

Union Services in Yearly Meeting Auditorium Evening
The first union service last Sunday evening drew a large crowd with music by the Indiana Boys' School orchestra. Special numbers by Carolyn Johnson Whitehouse and the Quaker Oil quartet accompanied congregational singing directed by Mr Whitehouse. Rev Willard O Trueblood delivered an inspiring sermon as Friends observed a successful church family and roll call day and faced the new year as a united group.

Quaker Oil Picnic Draws Record Attendance
The Fourth of July gathering for Quaker Oil Co. officers and employees at John T. Hollingsworth’s farm drew about 60 guests, the largest turnout yet. The event featured a noon dinner, ice cream, lemonade, sports, and music by the company quartettes. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Zack Wright of Indianapolis. Quaker Oil now employs 230 people with 12 traveling salesmen.
