Incendiary Fire Destroys Smalley Stone Crusher Power House
A fire in North Plainfield, suspected incendiary in origin, destroyed A I Smalley’s stone crusher power house, causing about 2500 in damages. The engine collapsed and the stone bins burned before rescuers saved the crusher. Insurance coverage stands at 1000. In Elizabeth, Union County Court ordered a struck jury for Eden Laing v. Rahway city and Pennsylvania Railroad on a disputed appraisal of about 7000. Jurors were drawn and view of the property arranged.

Ex Freeholder C W L Martine died suddenly at his Fanwood home between noon and 1 pm. He was found on the floor and suspected to have died of apoplexy at nearly sixty. A Democrat, he served as Freeholder for many terms and directed the Board for years. Survived by a sister, funeral plans were not yet made.
