Forecast calls for New Jersey to be fair with slightly cooler air and westerly winds. Fort Sunday expected to be fair with steady temperatures and light breezes.
Governor Abbott visited Westfield as guests packed Empire Engine Company No. 1 Hall. A cannon salute, illuminated homes, and a large crowd from Westfield and neighboring towns welcomed him. Abbott praised the town and fire department, presented a trumpet, and spoke at a banquet after the parade.
The Crescents lost to Ivanhoe Leilken 1490 to 1552 at Ivanhoe alleys in New York City last evening. Loza Munsa, an Italian detainee caught stealing cabbage from John H. Thys’s patch in Scotch Plains on Thursday night, was sentenced this morning by Judge McCormick in Elizabeth to thirty days in the county jail. A counterfeit $50 bill was found on his person at arrest.
In Union County Courts at Elizabeth Renee Pearl Beck the Regro and Jennie Wiley of this city were re sentenced by Judge McCormick to ten years each in State prison. The prisoners will be taken to Trenton on Monday. Beekman became sullen and refused to return to his cell requiring the combined efforts of six officers to restore order.
A bicyclist grabbed a four foot pumpkin from MacDonalds grocery store last night and offered to carry it home under Elias Bird’s arm. Bird, described as generous, noted the pie fruit was worth a couple of dollars. A flight of new steps was installed this afternoon at the National Bank building.
Mrs Sarah J C Downs longtime president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union of New Jersey was laid to rest in Rosedale Cemetery Orange after services at Halsey Street M E Church Newark The bearers included Rev D Randolph HL Belting BE Sawyer and sons 8 F Downs C 8 Downs and 8 Downs Addresses were given by Reva G Hughes J Atkinson Dr Stokes and Dr J B Graw.
