Workmen dredging the pond near John L Holly's Park Avenue home uncovered Hoffman hat matching the missing headwear when his body was found in Carlstadt. The pond was drained for repairs, and the brown felt hat was recovered during bank dredging.
The judge sentenced Patrick Cahill to 15 dollars and Jobn Pinney to 5 dollars for drunkenness. Rosanna Pullen received 10 days in the county jail. One elderly man was reprimanded and discharged.
The annual Teachers Institute for Union County will be held November 20 and 21 at Public School No. 4 on Cherry Street in Elizabeth New Jersey.
A special praise service replaces the Sunday evening worship at First Presbyterian Church. The program includes Slat Symphony Hallelujah Resurrection and other titles. Rev John Carey aged sixty five died at his North Plainfield home after a paralytic stroke yesterday evening. He was a retired colored Baptist minister known locally for an exemplary life and leaves several grown children.
At a Thursday board meeting a resolution states the county covers half the canvassing and registry expenses while each city and township covers half as it is engaged in every election. The clerk and county attorney will mail instructions to election board clerks on how to prepare the bills. Also notes seating for Choral Society concerts at Shipw's drug store starting December 10.
James J. Homan thanks delegates of the citizens meeting held November 10 for the Third War i council nomination but declines all offices to focus on his business. A note from Plainfield dated November 12, 1891, states the refusal. Also recalled is a severe snow storm from November 7, 1862 that blanketed the country and disrupted travel and harvests.
At the regular meeting the Finance Committee recommended apportioning the 70 000 appropriation for the coming year. The Wheel admits printing the Sayre letter was in error as it served political purposes. The retraction comes from information supplied by a Plainfield Bicycle Club member. Gilbert E. Falke of Elizabeth was injured Monday near Scotch Plains when his bicycle struck a large stone, fracturing his arm.
George Thatcher’s entertainment appears at Music Hall Ed Marble’s new play Tuxedo aims at charity. A Four Hundred coterie at Tuxedo disrupts rehearsals until Thatcher switches to Tuxedo. His minstrel company adds singing dancing and amusement. Central Pharmacy sells seats.
Mra Sarah J C Downs of Ocean Grove died of peritonitis at East Orange residence. She was seventy, longtime President of the New Jersey Woman's Christian Temperance Union, active in temperance work and church, and a noted lecturer. She participated annually in Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association events and lectured widely.
