Six Years For A Letter To Travel Forty Miles
A Baltimore to Stewartstown letter dated February 6, 1886, reached J. W. Anderson after six years, containing a bill and check for 155.98 from W. L. Unger Co. The check was stopped by the bank after Anderson notified the Baltimore firm of the delayed remittance. The case raises why the letter took so long to travel. In Elizabeth, George Morrison, a Newark freight engineer, was injured after striking a fence while boarding his Westbound train, suffering a severe gash and other injuries, attended at Union Depot and home in Newark. New Jersey Poultry Association officers were elected, with Hill and Carg as president and secretary Ivins, at Trenton. A plan to hold a Camden poultry show failed, Newark exhibition contemplated, and Moore Brothers Company incorporated in Elizabeth to run an iron foundry and machine shop with 25000 capital by Samuel L. Moore Jr, John Monrel, and Henry H. Isham.
