Universalists of Pillsburg Form New Church Union

The Universalists in Pillsburg formalized a new congregation at a 300-person service in Union Veteran Legion Hall. About 20 adults and 3 children were baptized and admitted. Rev Dr E C Sweetser of Philadelphia attended, linking the local reorganization to the Universalist General Convention.

Bulgarian Baptist lecturer on manners of Bulgarians at Thirty-seventh Street Church

The Rev Tenet Vulkoff, 22, four years in the United States, spoke on the manners and customs of Bulgarians at Thirty-seventh Street Baptist Church. He described social contrasts between city and country Bulgarians, hardships in arriving in America, and the role of persistent prayer. A collection for him followed the address.

St Peter's German Lutheran Church Holds Meeting

The St Peter's German Lutheran Church congregation on Station Street and Collins Avenue held a long business session to finish matters related to the new church edifice now ready for occupancy. Pastor election was deferred to next Sunday when a committee will report on several candidate clergy members.

West End men accuse Cassady in pocketknife attack

Jack Donivan Thomas Conner and Herman Ganster visited John Cassady at Singer's Row West Carson street Saturday night. A quarrel over mill work led Cassady to strike Donivan and cut him near the neck with a pocketknife. Conner escaped but was later arrested and jailed. Ganster also arrested. Donivan carried to a drug store for dressing. Cassady remains at large.

Teachers' Institute plans next school year session

The Executive Committee formed Saturday to plan the next school year for the Teachers Institute. Prof W A Proudfit chairs, Prof 5 D Everhart is secretary, Superintendent Luckey is president. Other members include Profs C A Riddle and J M Logan. A general session is set for September 14 to discuss selected educational topics. Notices will be sent to principals to state topics for discussion benefiting the schools.

Speakeasy Bottling Up West Carson Street Woes

Dozens of drunken men were arrested by police at the Thirty-sixth ward station yesterday afternoon. Over the past month, Sundays have seen many arrests of drunken and disorderly men from West Carson street just beyond the city line, blamed on a speakeasy operating past the line and reported to county officials.

Wall Yard Expansion Signals Railroad Growth at Wall PA

Construction begins on a new two thirds circle roundhouse and 52 car stalls as the Pennsylvania Railroad advances a 300 acre yard complex at Wall. Infant Edwin Mabold Dies at Allegheny Residence

Friends mourn the infant son of J O Mabold and Annie Mabold at 34 Federal Street Allegheny who died Saturday. Funeral services held yesterday as the small casket rested amid flowers. A workman at National Tube Works was injured after tangling with a moving train on the Pennsylvania line and is hospitalized at West Penn with unknown name. Local advertisements for spirits and importing houses appear at Market Street locations.

Unhappy Six at Central Station Hearing

Six cases were heard at Central station yesterday, the smallest Sunday morning tally in years. James McCarthy, arrested for vagrancy, claimed no home or money and requested 90 days at the work house, where he was accommodated. John Baker received 30 days for insulting ladies on Fifth avenue.

Thoughtful Farewells at Union Station

Three women cried loudly at Union Station last evening as friends departed. One woman clung to companions and screamed until trainmen intervened. The crowd was divided, some finding the scene excessive and unnecessary amid the departure.

Police were alerted yesterday to the escape of George H. Ames from Morgana. Ames is described as tall with a beecham-like complexion and wearing a large jeans suit. He hails from Bethlehem in Washington County and is reported to have a weak stomach.
