The Chicago escapade costs Sullivan friends and article claims trainer Muldoon brands him a loafer with no business sense. Detective Norris hunts the pugilists while Kilrain and backers consider sharing stakes and defenses for the championship belt amid rumors and disputes.
Special telegram reports detective John T. Norris hired by Governor Lowry to track Slogger Kilrain and party after a Mississippi mill. Norris aimed to bring to justice Kilrain, Mitchell, Pony Moore, and others, with affidavits of theft and shifting loyalties used to pursue arrests across states.
Mrs Kilrain, wife of former prizefighter Jake Kilrain, denounces newspapers for publishing every move of her husband. She says the press seems eager to see him arrested and wishes reporters would stop and let him return home.
The Daily Telegraph reports Kilrain's shoe spikes left deep gashes and blood stains on Sullivan's feet during the Eichburg bout. Jimmy Wakely delivers Kilrain’s shoes to Bryan McSwyny, who notes Sullivan’s prior shoes showed no marks. Sullivan’s damaged footwear will be displayed at McSwyny's window, 240 Broadway.

Jackson Mississippi July 15 John Fitzpatrick of New Orleans referee in the Sullivan Kilrain fight arrived last night and surrendered in Mississippi to the governor alleging potential violations of state law He waived preliminaries and posted a thousand dollar bond to appear in Pike County on Thursday the 18th Bonds were signed by local citizens.
A friend says Mitchell and Moore plan to sail for Liver on the Cunard steamer Etruria Wednesday morning from New York on an overnight voyage.
John F Beggs imprisoned senior guardian of Camp 20 Clan na Gael Chicago petitions for writ of habeas corpus arguing State's Attorney and police pressured him to testify about the Cronin murder and Cronin case. Harlan Adelbert Grimm 23 son of George Grimm of Cleveland died by aconite overdose in Erie. He left a wife and one child. A year earlier he worked for the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway Co when an arm injury occurred during coupling. His wife left him and found hotel work, refusing to return. He brooded then took his life.
Hon. A N Cole a prominent editor politician and agriculturist and called the Father of the Republicans died at his home in Wellsville New York at age 67. He founded the Genesee Valley Free Press at Belfast in 1847 the first Republican paper and counted Horace Greeley Chief Justice Chase and William Lloyd Garrison among his friends.
Carcaco July 15. The Lake Shore and Nickel Plate railroads announced a rate cut to 2 cents per hundred pounds for grain and products from Chicago to New York, effective July 18. All Van derbilt lines have joined. Michigan Central issued tariffs on Saturday. Pennsylvania and Chicago and Atlantic have not yet applied the cut beyond corn and wheat.
Pueblo telegram reports a morning blaze at 2 o'clock that leveled F C Taft's dry goods house and several small dwellings. Losses total about 35000 with 30000 insured. Suspected robbers may have started the fire. Findlay glass factory work advances with a new rain glass house planned and a 90 day completion target.
Ottawa reports Canadian exports valued at 3,002,517 dollars for the last fiscal year, up from 2,795,067 dollars the previous year, an increase of 207,450 dollars. The gains reflect broader trade expansion as the nation notes higher shipments.

Atlantic City July 16. Senator Quay failed to appear for a planned consultation with Philadelphia figures on Federal patronage in Pennsylvania. J H Harrah of Beaver named United States Marshal at Pittsburg arrived from Brigantine Beach. Penrose Cooper and others left disappointed, while Quay prepared to depart for Washington and then Philadelphia and Pittsburg.
At Homestead the strike's mass meeting ratified the new wage scale with only a few dissenters. The town rested after a week of tension as Carnegie works prepared to restart, with Superintendent Schwab ordering crews to report at 1 PM. The gathering of about 3,000 men approved the terms, and the town expected full operation by Saturday.
Special Telegram to the Dispatch reports George H. Levis a noted swindler said to have died in Surrey England on June 27. He formed the Pennsylvania and Maryland Improvement Company and the Headlight Copper Mining Company to mine copper in Franklin county on the Blue Ridge summit. He salted the mine invited experts and sold large stock lots. Victims remain in court suits for assessments. Levis fled from Harrisburg to Washington then Jacksonville St Louis and Chicago before leaving the country.
W T Lewis secretary of the National Progressive Union of Miners resigns to President John McBride. He cites labor field issues and wage disputes while noting miner unity has weakened. Patrick McBryde of Pennsylvania will act as secretary until a successor is elected.
For a week the coal fleet moored above the city has faced danger. Seventy five barges carrying 650000 bushels of coal valued at 175000 dollars have been kept afloat by costly efforts. Shrimp damage ruined oakum seams causing leaks and pumps to run constantly. Boats moved to the current washed the shrimp off and sawdust was rammed in. Several days of labor remain to secure the fleet.

A blaze at 12:30 a m destroyed the B G Anderson carriage warehouse at Stoner avenue and Market street Scottdale along with J B Brinkley dwelling and D F Stoner’s stable. Loss estimated at about 3000 dollars with insurance covering the damage. Origin unknown but suspected incendiary cause.
General Master Workman Powderly and the Knights of Labor executive board did not arrive in Chicago tonight. The group missed a hotel check in and faced boos as they were expected to appear for the event amid mounting tensions.
