Local Briefs Mention Stores and Church Events

News in brief notes postson butter crackers at the store and Kennedy crackers available. Turks dress, turkey and chicken supplies, and blankets received. Services led by Hugh Ingram and Rev D W Thomas noted. A prayer meeting, a Christmas tree project by Jackson Hamlet church, and choir practices announced. Aberdeen and Southern Pines baseball game reported with attendance.

Personal visitors and seasonal guests fill village hotels

I Leach of New York and Howard B Sterrett of Lynchburg stayed at the Casino last Friday. J K E Farran of Wilmington checked in at the Holly Inn. Several guests from Bradford, Boston, Reading, Greenwich and Towanda arrived or extended their season at the Cedars, Waldheim, Concord, Palmetto and Beacon. Notables include Mrs D C Remick of Magog and Anna Hubbard Mercur of Towanda. Frank I Carpenter recovers and resumes duties as livery manager. Salem Wilder and family settled at Wayside cottage with Mrs Butler, as winter guests.

Weather Threat Sets Mild Attendance in Village Event

Threatening weather kept attendance lower than usual, but all present enjoyed the event. Next Sunday evening the village will host a song service at the Village Hall with invitations extended to all residents to attend and participate. Charles E Vale of Providence Rhode Island, a skilled photographer, plans to occupy the studio above the Department Store this season. Vale is an artist whose platinotypes of Southern scenes are popular with Northern visitors as souvenirs of the Sunny South. This will be his third winter in the village and he hopes the studio will be ready to start business next week.

Winter Guests Arrive at Pinehurst Holly Inn and Casino

Robert E. Sise and wife of Medford arrive to winter at the Cedars. Allen T. Treadway manager of Holly Inn arrives with wife and two sons Heaton and Charles, plus Mrs W D Treadway. Thomas B. Jones and wife register as first guests at Holly Inn. A group from Boston and nearby towns also arrive at the Casino and Holly Inn for the season led by William Kennedy and wife of Melrose.

Holly Inn Opens Under Mr Allen T Treadway

Holly Inn started operation yesterday morning with Mr Allen T Treadway as manager. He is known to villagers from his prior role as associate manager of the Inn last season and for his work at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge Massachusetts. His return signals heightened guest comfort and popularity for the season.

Mr. Kimball Arrives at Hotel Berkshire

Mr JF B Kimball new manager of Hotel Berkshire arrives with Mrs Kimball and clerk E H Day. Kimball owner of Eagle Inn in Orwell Vermont has brought many staff. Berkshire to open next week with promise of guest satisfaction.
