At Pinehurst the United North and South Amateur championship reaches its final 36 hole round featuring Norman Maxwell and veteran W C Fownes Jr. The day drew a large crowd as Maxwell and Fownes maneuvered through tough holes with late drama including Maxwell pulling off a remarkable putt to force extra holes and Fownes narrowly edging Dyer in the semi final.
