Theodore Roosevelt was shot in the breast as he entered an automobile before a Milwaukee hotel for a Monday night address. Despite a bullet in his body, he spoke briefly to calm the crowd and was then taken to a hospital. A Columbia dispatch reports scattered returns from Tuesday’s primary with Lyon 17 488 and Peeples 19 260. Polls opened 8 a m to 4 p m. turnout weak with uneven county results. Peeples led by about 2 000 votes, mainly in the lower state. Pickens showed light voting with 97 for Peeples and 69 for Lyon at the box and 27 for Lyon to 0 for Peeples at the Pickens mill box.

Thom Bolding, 37, died Monday evening at his Pickens home after typhoid fever and pneumonia. He came from Piedmont fourteen years ago, survived by second wife Miss Hopkins and two children Ada and DeWitt, with parents and brothers.

On the first day of the October term in Greenville, South Carolina, Ransom Howard and G. B. Howard pleaded guilty to illicit distillery activity and received one month in Pickens County Jail. H. M. Lewis admitted to removing illegal whiskey and faced three months plus a $200 fine, or four months if unable to pay. Elrod and G.
