Fatal accident Sunday near Westminster claims Mrs Hester Lawrence
A carriage drawn by two mules collided with an oncoming automobile causing the driver to jam the reins. Mrs Hester M Lawrence fell and died from head injuries. Her husband W R Lawrence and son Ralph Lawrence 14 survive. Funeral held at Eastview cemetery with Revs A P Marett and R L Grier officiating. Mrs Lawrence, 52, leaves nine siblings and is daughter of Rev J T Lewis of Pickens county.

Special Court for Vaughn Appointed for October 21
The Governor appoints R O Purdy to preside over a special court to try T A Vaughn on October 21. Vaughn remains at the State penitentiary for safekeeping. He is a former superintendent of the Odd Fellows orphanage near Greenville and faces a serious charge after escaping Greenville county jail in June and being recaptured in Baltimore.

Resigns as County Treasurer in Pickens county
Mr. J. B. Richey resigns as Pickens county treasurer effective October 14 and will stay on to aid successor Taylor H. Stewart. The governor appointed Stewart to fill the unexpired term. Richey plans to accept one of two offers and begin a new job January 1, 1913 after serving about a year and finishing Garvin’s term. Stewart was elected treasurer in the recent election and is widely known.

Pendleton Fair Draws Large Attendance From Surrounding Counties
About 2000 people from Pickens Anderson and Oconee counties attended the Pendleton fair on Tuesday the 8th. Ideal weather boosted farm exhibit turnout with pure bred cattle horses hogs poultry and farm dairy products shown. The largest exhibit belonged to Sedgwick M Johnston of Liberty SC Route 2 on an 148 acre farm eight miles away featuring corn hay peas potatoes onions and many fruits vegetables and goods.
