The Pickens County Democratic Convention met at the courthouse with solid attendance and patriotism. Delegates were elected for the state convention in Columbia May 15, and a resolution backed U S war aims, conscription, and loyalty while condemning disloyalty and mob violence.
A letter from Lycee Victor Duray Paris sent to John H. Finley portrays Franco American unity in war. The pupil sings The Star Spangled Banner in French and expresses shared sacrifice across the Yser river and Atlantic voyage. Hearts bridge distances between nations despite the trench divide.
Resolution calling for international limits on certain manufactures is rejected after votes show Pickens in favor with Miller the only others supporting it.
