Pickens has oversubscribed its Third Liberty Loan goal earning the right to fly an honor flag to be presented by the U S government. Banks report subscriptions of 65000 dollars though the town was asked to invest 43000 dollars with time running to Saturday. A list of subscribers includes T Hinton Lois Hinton C J Robinson Mrs C E Robinson Harry Robinson and many others.
The bill, passed by the legislature, levies eleven mills for Pickens County to fund roads and bridges, salaries for county officials, education, jails, jurors, and other services. It designates sums for the clerk of court, sheriff, treasurer, auditor, superintendent of education, attorney, coroner, janitor, county commissioners, probate judge, magistrates, boards, jail meals, and miscellaneous expenses. A four thousand dollar pension allocation for Confederate soldiers and widows is included, contingent on approval by the county pension board.

The Piedmont Presbyterial of Pickens Oconee and Anderson counties will hold its annual meeting this week at Clemson College. Mrs. W. A. Sheldon and Mrs. M. A. Orgs are appointed to represent Liberty church. Pickens post office reports 4000 dollars in war savings stamps sold.
Patriotism spurs large scale home gardening as USDA estimates 2,000,000 Americans last year planted gardens. Home gardens reduce strain on transportation for war munition and food shipments and may help the railroad system. youths assisting gardens aid the war effort. Leaflets from the Department of Agriculture in Washington offered free upon request.

The message calls for nationwide participation, stressing that the war’s outcome hinges on collective sacrifice and financial backing. It frames supporting bonds as a duty and a privilege and invites South Carolinians to meet heroes with pride.
Piedmont Presbytery convened in Pendleton South Carolina with 10 ministers and 22 elders attending. Reports from colleges praised salary increases and benevolence drive results. 18 churches met quotas, two over subscribed, and 11 rose over 50 percent. The Baptist Courier recounts Six Mile Academy under Principal Garner with eighty seven enrollees and four graduates Roy Garrett Sallie May Brissey Bessie Kelley and Iloride Prince. It notes eight graduates in normal training and praises Garner for funding needy students while supporting church and mission work.
A Sunday service at the First Baptist church on April 21 featured a service flag honoring local boys serving in the war. Lieut.
