A Cedar Rock mass meeting responds to a July Easley Progress article by disowning Watsonist accusations and defending loyalty to law and the Constitution. The group asserts support for rural reforms and the parcel post, inviting law officers to monitor them while denying disloyalty.
James I Porter and Miss Estella Stansell wed at the Porter residence on August 5 in Easley route. Bride and groom are named in the notice, with the ceremony conducted by J B Newberry P J.

Miss Emily Griffin of Pickens married Mr. Jackson Glenn Hollis of Columbia in a intimate family ceremony officiated by Rev. D W Hiatt. The couple, in a night blue taffeta suit and a bouquet of bride roses, left for a ten day trip to Washington and northern cities before residing in Fasloy.
Miss Letha Pace and Mr Roy McNeely were wed at the Pace residence in Pickans Mill village on July 23. The couple and guests later dined as Mrs Pace prepared an abundant feast. The ceremony was conducted by M I Hester, N P, in his usual manner.

Simmons explains Clemson College pruning method to boost fruit, with many visitors calling the orchard the finest they have seen. Other locals, including Mrs. Henderson and Tom Es. Porter, contribute peaches of similar size and quality.
Citizens of Pickens county gathered in Easley last week to endorse the Selective Draft system and all government plans to resist enemies. They denounce any local effort to hamper or obstruct the military draft and allied measures.
A family reunion will be held at the old Porter place four miles above Pickens on Monday August 20. Relatives of the late B S Porter and friends of the family are invited to attend. A S Porter.
William A. Stansell of Pickens County recounts volunteering for the U S Army in early May. He details exams in Greenville, train trips to Fort Scriven, Ga and Chattanooga, Tenn, medical processing, inoculations, and arrival at Chickamauga Park Fort Oglethorpe as a Private in the 6th U S Infantry awaiting deployment to France.

In Sherman Texas a large wedding announcement details the marriage of Miss May Hendricks to Mr Esker Robinson of Hereford Texas. The bride is granddaughter of Mr and Mrs J I Langua for Liberty and a music instructor with a strong schooling record. Noah R Hendricks, the groom’s family ties to Pickens county are noted with his Texas success and stated wealth.
Notice to Confederate soldiers of Pickens County to meet at their township election place on Saturday the 18th to vote by ballot for an ex soldier or sailor who has no pension to represent county veterans at Pickens courthouse on the first Monday of September 1917 to elect a pension board for one year. The Piedmont Baptist association met with the First Baptist church at Easley from August 2 to 3. Rev. D. Weston Hiatt, founder moderator, was elected moderator again. H. D. Singleton and L. L. Smith were reelected as clerk and assistant clerk treasurer. Prominent speakers from other associations attended.
Pickens county road bonds sold to Breed Elliott Harrison of Cincinnati at par plus 675 premium. They bear five percent interest and will go to the county highway commission after final details. This marks the second sale after the first failed legal advertisement. The highway commission views the second sale as more successful.
In a Sunday ceremony on August 5 1917 at M F Hester residence W W Davis wed Masora Corbin both of near the W M Hapgood place. The couple and guests later visited Mr Davis home for a reception. Mr Hester officiated the ceremony.
Bessie Patterson daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waddy Patterson died at their Easley Millage J home on July 29 at age fifteen years and one month. She joined the Baptist church recently and stated she was ready to go, hoping the streets were of pure gold. Buried July 30 at Mountain Grove church as family and friends mourn.
