The Phoenix Housing Authority must present a council resolution for a survey to map housing needs in Phoenix before applying to the federal government for public housing aid under a new low-cost housing law. Terrence A. Carson notes two survey factors to be considered by the housing board and council.
Carson returns from Southern California asserting public housing fits private enterprise. He lists reasons including tuberculosis, infant mortality, vacant Phoenix houses, tenant mobility, and self-sustaining projects with no federal subsidies, while parkways would be funded for purchase and development.
Maricopa County Board of Supervisors denied two liquor license applications after protests and referred another to the State Liquor Control Director. John W. Tapp failed to gain a beer and wine license at 6500 Grand Avenue, and Helen M. Tufts and G. A. Taylor were denied for Greenway Country Club on East Broadway. The board ruled neither would serve public convenience and necessity. Ralph S. Younker’s application at 8 West Camelback Road was referred to the control director.
Free classes in canoe and small craft safety sponsored by the Red Cross begin at the Encanto Boathouse on September 26 and will meet each Monday from 4 to 6 p m. Scouts Camp Fire Girls and other groups can join to earn merit badges as instruction is tailored to those requirements.
