Nearly 1000 youths gathered at Encanto Park Lagoon for the sixth annual Junior Chamber of Commerce Children’s Fishing Meet. Registration began 7 am at the Band Shell, fishing started 8 am, with judges from The Phoenix Gazette and local papers scoring two hour catches for top boys and girls in 6 to 13 age groups and a grand prize for the best catch. WES LILLAGORE and Jaycees monitored the event as hopefuls chased the elusive Powerhouse Mike in the lagoon.

Highway Death Toll Rises To Six During Holiday Period
Arizona's Labor Day weekend death toll climbed to six with three more fatalities reported yesterday. Dr Kingsley Dies Funeral is Wednesday
Dr Alfred C. Kingsley a longtime Arizona physician and former superintendent of the Arizona State Hospital for the Insane died at his home in Phoenix. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Memory Chapel with cremation to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park. He was born in Ripley New York September 16 1876 and practiced medicine in Nogales Phoenix and around the state. Survivors include his wife Martha a daughter Marjorie a son Alfred Jr a sister a brother and a grandchild.
