Raymond T. Ditmars curator of the Bronx Zoological Garden was arrested in Westchester while returning from a trip with a cannon mounted on a truck. The cannon was wrapped in canvas and described as ancient and to be used for lawn decor. The constable called it a concealed weapon and he was briefly detained before release after local officials reviewed the case.

Railroads Omaha Pierre and Fort Pierre Kago and Northwestern filed annual railway commission reports. The Omaha line shows gross 320,000 with expenses 322,000 for year ending June 30, 1911. President Taft to Visit Pierre for World Peace and Irrigation Talks
President Taft will be in Pierre from 2 AM October 22 to 9 AM Monday. He will lecture on World Peace Sunday afternoon and on irrigation and politics Monday morning. Special trains and a 1 1 3 rate round trip will be provided. Pierre plans elaborate entertainment and irrigation demonstrations by F W Stanley and local manufacturers, followed by a major irrigation meeting.

OGrady Pleads Guilty in SD Arson Case
In Deadwood on October 11 John Emmet OGrady changed his plea from not guilty to guilty of arson in the fourth degree for the June fire at Homestake cyanide plant No 2. He was sentenced to two years hard labor at the South Dakota penitentiary in Sioux Falls. Shortly after, attorney R T Stewart announced that co-defendant Butler would be sentenced to four years at hard labor in the state penitentiary.
