New Draft Call for 240,000 Men Issued by U S Army
Washington June 6 Orders for the mobilization of 240000 draft registrants for general military service were issued by Provost Marshal General Crowder. About 200000 will be white and 40000 colored with the latter drawn from twenty states and mainly from the extreme South. States and quotas include Kentucky 2000 to Camp Taylor Maryland 2000 to Camp Meade Missouri 500 to Camp Funston New Jersey 500 to Camp Dix Ohio 600 to Camp Sherman and Pennsylvania 500 to Camp Sherman.

Sailor Held Aboard U 151 Recounts Jersey Capture
Adolphus Lewis of 709 Naudain Street, a sailor for 20 years, was among the Edna crew captured and bombed off Jersey. He says the men were aboard a submarine for eight days, treated royally, then released and reached Jersey by boat. The submarine was U 151.

Huntsville Texas June 3 Mrs Sarah Cabiness and her sons George Pete Cute Tenola and Tho mas were killed and her daughter Bessie was probably fatally wounded in a shooting affray near here George Cabiness was shot and killed Thursday afternoon when he resisted officers sent to arrest him for threatening A P W Alien with a gun and evading draft service About 10 o clock Saturday night one Cabiness boy carrying a shotgun approached Alien s home and was shot Shortly after daylight Sunday a posse surrounded the Cabiness home and was met by the family with a volley from six shotguns The posse began firing into the house and soon it was burning as the flames gained headway the mother carried the bodies of her four dead to the yard where she too was shot

Philadelphia memories mourn Bernard Brown 25 son of Mrs Lulu Lonza 1330 8 Cleveland Ave as one of two sailors from the city lost when the transport President Lincoln was torpedoed at sea. Hundreds Flee East St. Louis After Police Shooting
In East St. Louis Illinois on June 6 several hundred Black residents fled to St. Louis and other cities amid fears of a renewed riot after the shooting of Officer Anthony Kinne. Joseph Payne, a Black man accused of the shooting, was captured by a mob and severely beaten before being turned over to police. Payne allegedly tried to arrest Kinne for passing counterfeit money.

El der W. Robinson, leader of the colored sect The Live and Never Die, was arraigned before Judge Ro bert H. Ingersoll with bail set at $10,000. Investigators allege he mentors boys into crime as a Fagan figure. Thirty-five boys were seized in the raid and Grace Chappelle of Ven Park testified two boys stole jewels worth $6,000. Eighteen robberies have been reported.
