Campers Consider Seasonal Leases and Lake Timber Work
The authority discussed allowing some campers to stay through the season at Curwensville Lake, instead of rotating every 14 days, noting potential fairness issues. Guarino and Kling sought a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers to amend the lease with Clearfield County for selective timber harvesting after studies and a forester’s recommendation. Also planned are tree removals to improve health and land for recreation, with replanting to keep resources viable. The beach closes Sept 14, a three year food contract is under consideration, and emergency planning with local officials is being pursued. Donations for Wheels at the Lake exceed $1,200, a craft show is slated, and Conservation Celebration events are announced. Next meeting Sept 23.

Budget strains Community Action transportation program
Budget gridlock leaves Community Action unable to pay $511000 owed from last year and about $500000 this year. The agency pauses third party payments and reimbursements, risking loss of patient travel for medical care and even canceling the transportation program. Meals for seniors remain at risk in Houtzdale. Other agencies face similar funding pressures amid the state budget impasse.
