Three men attempted a robbery at a section wing of a railway near Blackfoot Idaho on Sept 27. A fight left W. J. Futegeralé a mortally wounded section foreman Deputy Sheriff J. Sweet and one assailant fatally struck. The others fled. condition of the deputy and assailant not stated.
British expedition departed Lassa on September 23 and moved toward the Shumbia valley per dispatches from Lang, Thibet dated September 27.
St Petersburg dispatch states the Japanese lost 14960 killed during the night attack on Port Arthur on September Te. Russian warships offered valuable aid in repulsing the assault.
Joe Basler sells his Pendleton furniture business after 15 years to W K Graham of Walla Walla. Graham, an experienced dealer, will join as salesman and general assistant until January 1 to learn the trade and acquaint himself with customers. The deal excludes Basler’s billiard and pawnbroking interests which remain with him.
Major Lee Moorhouse, a leading Northwest expert, said there will be no new Nez Perce chief. He noted only about 16 New Perce members remain and old Joseph’s death has drawn attending Indians from Colville, Walla Walla, Cayuse and others. He described the chief as honorary now and reported widespread hardship among Northwest tribes, including Pasco and the former Walla Walla domain.
Fairbanks spoke to sheep raisers under the republican protective policy in a large wool house, delivering a 20 minute address amid a roaring crowd. An earlier ride in Montana saw a large demonstration as the senator greeted supporters and urged better conditions for farmers.

Pinal rations have been made for the headgate for the flume for the new municipal electric power plant at Milton, and for the flume and the power house. The head of the flume will be about a quarter of a mile above William Nichols house, just off the eastern edge of the town. The flume will be between three-eighth and half a mile long, and the power house will be near the Grove school house. The new system aims to be in operation by January 1.

Secretary J H W Gwinn notes high attendance and enthusiasm as nine associations join to form a 206 strong body with a $2 per 1000 head levy to fund the group. Next year’s meeting tentatively set for Portland. discussion includes Blue Mountain grazing and range improvements.
Attorneys for Manager Davis, Business Manager Noonan, and Blage Manager Curoming failed to appear in court to plead to manslaughter charges connected with the Iroquoia theater disaster. Proceedings were postponed as defendants did not plead today.
