Japanese forces resumed bombardment and attacked Port Arthur fortress defenses as Allied troops moved to Mukden. Reported Russian casualties and Japanese gains varied. defense lines held with substantial Japanese pressure and ongoing mobilization near Manchuria as the war widens in the north.
In Glendive Montana on Sept 26 Senator Fairbanks with ex Senator Carter began a Montana tour. They were met by a rousing serenade as a farm siding event hosted a morning rally. Fairbanks spoke on irrigation policy and led a parade through town. Afternoon stops planned at Miles City and Forsythe.
Two masked men robbed Len Conway's saloon in Seattle at 3 am, lining up a dozen patrons, taking the till, fatally shooting James Murphy, seriously wounding proprietor Conway, and wounding Guibert MacBeath.

Relative authorities state Narcisse known as Big Jim on the reservation did not attempt suicide near Welser and is not dead nor seriously hurt. Elmwood report notes Burlingon train wreck near here with one dead, several fatally injured, and many wounded. Spokane reports Jewenette Harrie acquitted of infant death due to insanity defense. Detmold reports Count Ernest Casimir Frederice Regent of Lippe dead at 62.
Miners in the anthracite region win Judge Gray’s ruling on check weighmen at mines. The decision denies a union man at every mine but allows weighmen under union foremen supervision and requires deductions to be proportionate to the weight of coal. The ruling addresses a major dispute in the coal industry and the ongoing strike dynamics.
In The Dalles and Portland the government secured a five and a quarter mile right of way 200 feet wide through private property for a ship canal project. A. Beufert received the wate compensation and the sale includes property of several owners. The German budget for 1906 proposes adding 40,000 naval personnel and officers.
The Knoxville wreck toll climbs as 54 killed and 1395 injured report from the Southern trailway disaster east of Knoxville. Conductor W B Cauldwell took responsibility amid delirium, misreading a meeting order that led to the wreck. both engineers were killed. Sept 26 Chicago report lists one dead and 11 seriously hurt in a gas stove explosion in Heidi Henrizon’s apartment building. Injured victims remain in critical condition with feared additional deaths. Topeka dispatch notes Robert Rohalne, the self confessed dramnster, confessed to Sheritt Bell’s claim as false. Bell called Rohalne a liar. Homainne faces potential burglary charges in Cripple Creek.
Nashua Sept 26 Willim Ek Chander former United States onator was injured when thrown from an ute. He sustained injuries and was found by bystanders. He is now at home recovering.
The Pilot Rock Sunday School convention drew a large attendance and featured talks by A Kewell and Gillam on church topics. New officers were elected with Miss Lette as president and Mrs R Hume as secretary, amid praise for the event’s strong turnout and orderly conduct.
W. Schaberg faced arraignment in the state circuit court this afternoon on charges of counterfeit checks and using false pretenses. The defendant is accused of passing bogus checks on local saloon owners in a scheme described as fraudulent.
