Cannot Open Books for Registration in City Vote Hearing
At a mass meeting last evening Chairman Stephen A Lowell urged the mayor and council to have the city recorder open registration books so unregistered citizens can vote in the December general election or any future special election on the new charter. City officials dispute this, citing city law that closes registration 60 days before a general election and that special elections may not require registration. Recorder FitzGerald notes city charter and Ordinance 699 bar additional registration for the upcoming election and for any special elections on charter issues.
