City officials report total taxable property in Pendleton at 1 660 489 with assessed value up from last year. A Lewiston to Walla Walla report says civil engineer EB Clark of Walla Walla, employed by the North Coast Railroad, led a survey party along the Snake River, Mill Creek and through the Blue Mountains. Clark declined to reveal findings, others say the group completed the planned work and faced tough terrain. speculation surrounds who backs the North Coast road and its Harriman connections.
A devastating blaze in Glasgow on November 20 trapped 320 men on the fourth floor of a lodging house. Many workers perished or were injured as smoke and flames blocked exits. Firemen battled the inferno, with several victims unidentified due to severe injuries and lack of clothing. A ship recently carried 14,000 bunches of bananas from Jamaica.
In Milwaukee a clash broke out as Alderman Rittelat and Voters' League secretary J McConnell fought in a council hall during an inquiry. Mayor and thirty aldermen watched. McBell tried to accompany inspectors, but Thittelat was shoved from a carriage and struck.

A commission would be abolished and all work placed under one man, Con ereeeman Mann of Illinois, who will introduce a bill in the house. The administration backs the plan as the president expresses disgust with the present engineers.
Nov 20 El Malo France reports definite information on the steamer Hilda wreck. Fifty one bodies recovered. fifteen washed ashore at Brest. Captain Gregory and Chief Officer Pearson among the drowned. The vessel struck rocks in a driving snowstorm. boilers flooded, explosion tore the ship apart. lifeboats found, one lifeboat with casualties washed ashore. heavy loss of life among passengers and crew.
In St Louis on November 20 the federal court began a new trial of Senator Burton with Judge Van Deventer presiding. Cot D M Hensdell attends as Senate sergeant at arms to oppose Barton. U S District Attorney Dyer outlines the government’s case as Ranedel is linked to sending telegraph orders and implicated in payments from government funds.
A court rendered a decision against the Interstate Commerce Commission regarding Chicago and Great Western and 17 other rail roads. The case charged the commission with discriminating against small shippers in favor of packers and setting shipping rates too high. The court found no discrimination and ruled that livestock shipments may bear heavier charges than packed meat due to exit trouble at hearings.
Nov 20 reports from Chicago, the greatest wheat market in the United States, show wheat at 441-4 to club declined one cent from Saturday. In the local market wheat is quoted around 41 to 41 1/2 cents with blue stem at 4.45.

He came to California in 1850 and mined in the Fraser River area and Washington Territory. News from Portland reports the British ship Gardedale wrecked off Cape Horm near the Columbia mouth while the crew reached safety in Patagonia. Copenhagen notes Charles and consort accept Norway crown with Haakon VII pledged as king. Washington announces formal refunding of several US loan issues to continue after November 29.
Sheriff T. D. Taylor arrested W. W. Brasfield in Pendleton on a Garfield, Washington larceny by bailee charge. Brasfield allegedly took a buggy and team, did not return it, and the pair were later found near Elberton. He and wife traveled to Athena and then Pendleton before capture. A Garfield deputy brought him back. Rumor also notes a local Eagles member William Stures marrying Carl Stewart. Hamilton bank embezzling manager HM House Thrown sentenced seven years.
A tale from Umatilla reports an alleged murder near the Columbia River with blood found on the riverbank and an Indian blanket rock dragged from the bank. Constable Davis and a search party failed to locate a body despite digging around the river. Sheriff Taylor cautions the tale may be a hoax or misinterpretation.

He claims mortgaged securities totaling 11 million are untaxed and notes and accounts have risen far less proportionally than valuations. Cherbourg Nov 20 The cruiser Minneapolis sailed for Kronstadt the morning indicating a voyage toward the Baltic region.
