Burlington and the Engineers Reach Wage Agreement
Chicago Nov 18 The Burlington railroad after 26 years of opposition has signed its first wage schedule with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers since the 1885 strike. The agreement was signed by officers and the general committee after three weeks of talks, ending a long dispute that began with 490 engineers leaving their engines during the 1855-56 strike led by Paul Morton. Since then many Burlington engineers have joined the Brotherhood, with about 70 percent now members.
