Three Legged Calf From The Dalles Reaches Portland Exhibit
Wasco an eight month old calf born with three legs arrives in Portland with Tom Dutton Seattle animal lover. Born a Durham Holstein cross the calf lacks a shoulder bone, its left fore leg is a three inch stub yet the animal is well formed and heavier than an average steer. Dutton traveled from The Dalles after a letter from James McCoy revealed the calf’s existence. The plan is to display Wasco in a dime museum rather than slaughter for beef, drawing Northwest attention to the unusual animal.
