City ticket chatter centers on a possible mayoral run by B F P Renn as council contenders surface. Late today seven petitions filed with two or three more expected, signaling rising interest in the city election.
A prospective Pendleton municipal ticket for mayor and four wards emerges as petitions circulate. By 3 pm several candidates filed independent or citizen petitions, with others expected to file, while rumors claim councilman Renn would run but were denied.
Will Speak Tuesday A H Cross of Portland a noted Sunday school worker and missionary and former member of Marion Lawrence's famous class at Detroit Mich will speak at the Congregational church next Tuesday evening at 7 40 on the subject Sunday school success All are cordially invited to attend.
Bellingham theaters will stay open tomorrow despite a Supreme Court ruling upholding the Sunday closing law. Managers met and reached a decision today to defy the ruling, though they had agreed to abide by the decree.
Everett L. Jones of Albany College won the Pacific coast prohibition oratorical contest at Albany on November 16, beating D Boyd of Stanford and others. Boyd won on delivery while Jones led on composition. Jones won by half a percent in the final balance of points.
New York November 16 A protest storm erupts after Knickerbocker Trust chief Higgins questions the character of late president Charles P Barney. Higgins blames former ice king Charles Morse for Barneys death and may resign amid the uproar.
Vancouver reports that Harry Stout, a horse thief and murderer of Robert Williams, a northwest trader near Kamloops, was killed in a snow covered northern Kamloops hillside after a desperate battle with mounted police. A revolver duel preceded the fatal shot.
A collision between two street cars at McAllister and Fillmore injured three people. Reva Falk sustained contusions, Patrolman Wedkin suffered bruises with possible internal injuries, and Max Anthony had a lacerated hand and leg.
At a special Goldfield meeting on November 16 miners of the Consolidated and Mohawk group will decide if they stay at work. They have been paid half coin and half draft and demand full coin payment. Haywood backs the men, who accept the current terms if necessary but prefer coin.
county superintendent Frank K. Welles tours county schools including Freewater district near Helly and Ferndale with Sunnyside reporting about 180 pupils in three rooms. Moore's school under T. & E. In Bellingham on November 16 a fight at a sophomore class dance led to Edward Lowry being shot in the leg by fellow student R. Goodrich. Police report a gang calling themselves royal highbinders were involved.
Peru Ind Nov 16 Train number 13 on the Wabash railroad wrecked near North Pine eleven miles from here today. The engine baggage car and one combination car were demolished. Nine persons were seriously injured.
Chicago police report Policeman Robert McKeney found dead after gunfire at Sixty third and Wentworth Avenue. Witnesses heard shots and saw a man fleeing down Sixty third Street as the investigation begins.
Arlington Record reports last Sunday saloons were closed by city council order with no reported disasters or need for coroner services. Saloon proprietors, glad for a rest, supported the measure and officials note no epidemic or trouble from the action and a peaceful town response.
Norfolk Va November 16 Federation of labor votes 164 to 50 against government ownership of railroads and mines. It supports government control of telephones.

Pendleton high school outplayed Baker City at every stage to win 10 to 5. Nat Kimball, Pendleton’s plucky quarterback, scored a spectacular long touchdown after a punt miscue, with Devine adding the extra point. Baker City rallied briefly but Pendleton held on.
