Ballast in Spring Accelerates O R N Ballasting Plan
The Oregon Railway and Navigation line from La Grande to Huntington will resume ballast work in spring after gravel pit failures halted last year. A Harriman system appropriation of 3 million dollars funds ballast upgrades to 90-pound rails, new bridges, and track improvements, under Mohler and Calvin Wil. A Grand Ronde bed pit near Taland City proved insufficient, delaying completion.
